Empowerment Zone Employment Credit
The Empowerment Zone Employment Credit is an incentive to businesses that are located in an empowerment zone (EZ) to hire and retain employees who also live in the EZ. Businesses are eligible for a tax credit of up to $3,000 per eligible employee. Empowerment Zones are distressed urban and rural areas nationwide that are in need of revitalization.
Congress recently reauthorized the Empowerment Zone Employment Credit and made it retroactive to January 1, 2018. This tax incentive is completely separate from the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).
How does it work? Companies can earn up to $3,000 in tax credits for each qualified employee that lives AND works in one of the designated Empowerment Zones. We can do a look back to review all the employees that worked for your company between January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019. We can review your payroll records to screen and determine eligibility.
FREE SCREENING - Please contact us if you are interested in the Empowerment Zone Employment Credit. We can screen the addresses of all the employees that worked for your company in 2018 and 2019 to determine if they are located in any of the designated Empowerment Zones.
